Design Life

Majoring in Apparel Merchandising & Design at Central Michigan University was an amazing creative learning experience in which I grew as a person and a designer. Through the program I learned the creative side to fashion such as sketching, patternmaking, and sewing, and I also learned the business side, with a buying course and merchandising classes.

Here is what I've been up to since graduation in May:

My Jobs:

1) Carhartt- I recently became a Product Coordinator for Carhartt. Headquartered in Dearborn, MI (yay for Michigan companies!) the brand is known for premium quality workwear that is durable & comfortable.  Recently, Carhartt has begun to open its own retail stores (you may start noticing them crop up throughout the U.S.). With two stores open and a third coming to Chicago in April, Carhartt is taking its first steps into the retail industry. Dipping into the lifestyle side of things, the retail stores are taking the clothes not just to the blue collar worker anymore, but to everyone, yet still maintaining the Carhartt brand image throughout the line. Found in stores is a mix of plaids, cozy sweatshirts, soft Ts, blue jeans and cargo pants.

2)Anthropologie- I worked here in sales during the Christmas season. This store added a styish and sophisticated punch to my wardrobe! Being my favorite store & brand of all time (sorry Carhartt, you're still great too!) it was great to be surrounded by the clothes I adore. An eclectic assortment of fashion, accessories and home products, this store caters to the girl with a personal sense of style. A rustic, bohemian vibe, with the most amazing front window displays you have ever seen, this store is a must go to! even if you can't afford to buy.

3)Shapes- I interned at this Royal Oak boutique 2 summers ago, and since then I have been working part-time at the shop. This boutique houses some the most original clothing. Although expensive looking within, the prices are reasonable and you can come out with an elegant outfit that surely no one else will have. Aside from the ready to wear clothing, what this place specializes in is custom dresses. If you're looking for your dream homecoming, prom, or wedding dress this is the place to go. Got an idea in your head? It can becoming a living work of art. The most beautiful dresses are made here, and again, the price is reasonable!

Shapes is located at Main and 4th Street in Royal Oak, MI. Contact Tereas at 248.547.4990 if you are interested in having something custom made.
